About Isabel Gibson
 
Isabel grew up in New Zealand where she developed an affinity for rural and coastal areas, which feature prominently in her painting themes.  Using a limited palette to achieve harmony in her paintings, Isabel is best known for her paintings of boats and barns, two themes she is developing.  Her first paintings were watercolour, but more recently acrylic has been her choice of medium.
 
Photography is a passion for Isabel and during travels, both near and far from home, Isabel takes many reference pictures that are later used to inspire and develop her ideas.  She looks for subjects with strong values and interesting designs and records possible subjects for new paintings using pen and ink in her travel journal.
 
Isabel lives in Maple Ridge, B.C. and has photographed barns throughout the Fraser Valley, some recorded for their interesting design and others photographed before they crumble and collapse, or are demolished.  Many have become subjects for her paintings, perhaps an attempt to preserve them after they are physically gone.
 
Boats have become a major focus in Isabel's work, including vessels she has encountered while traveling, as well as the many working boats that ply the waters in and around British Columbia.  She enjoys the interplay between the more structural designs of boats and the ever changing organic shapes of water and land.  

Isabel is a Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA) and the Fraser Valley Chapter FCA.  She is a long standing member of the Garibaldi Art Club of Maple Ridge, B.C. and participates in the Maple Ridge - Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour. artstudiotour.ca
